A crew member has died, and 4 passengers have been hospitalized after a hearth erupted on a cruise ship heading to Singapore early on Feb 20.

There have been 271 passengers on board, with 139 of these from Singapore, based on an announcement from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

“We’re on board. Was scary. Rescue efforts took longer,” the traveler wrote.

“We heard the warning sound. [We] have been rushed to deck 7 & 8. As [we] climbed up, the smoke turned denser and denser,” the passenger continued. “One uncle fractured his ribs.”

One crew member, who began working for World Legacy only a few months in the past, spoke to AsiaOne on the situation of anonymity.

“I panicked for a second,” he stated as he talked in regards to the fireplace.

One other crew member advised AsiaOne, “They didn’t need to inform us in the beginning [about the deceased individual] as a result of they [didn’t] need us to panic.”

The MPA stated in an announcement, “The deceased crew member, an Indonesian nationwide, has been transferred ashore.”

It went on, “The related authorities are dealing with the mandatory follow-up, and the Indonesian embassy in Singapore has been knowledgeable.”

The assertion continued, “MPA has established a security zone across the vessel and is issuing navigational broadcasts to advise passing vessels to maintain clear. The reason for the hearth is beneath investigation.”
