The roll sits low within the sky in a horizontal tube-shaped arcus cloud and is “comparatively uncommon,” in accordance with the Nationwide Climate Service (NWS).

“Roll clouds often look like ‘rolling’ a few horizontal axis, however shouldn’t be confused with funnel clouds,” stated NWS.

Stephen Corfidi, a meteorologist on the Nationwide Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), beforehand informed Nationwide Geographic the clouds are sometimes related to thunderstorms.
