AMSTERDAM (AP) — The CEO of Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport has give up after a summer season that descended into chaos and flight cancellations amid employees shortages within the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I’ve performed my best, however we’re not there but. I do hope it will get higher quickly,” CEO Dick Benschop mentioned in an announcement launched by the airport Thursday, after he instructed the board of his choice on Wednesday evening.

He mentioned he was stepping down “to present Schiphol the area to make a brand new begin. I don’t want consideration on me to turn into an impediment for Schiphol.”

The busy aviation hub on the outskirts of Amsterdam has been hit by enormous queues and piles of unclaimed baggage over the summer season trip months as air journey roared again after the pandemic.

The surge in demand for air journey got here after airways and airports had slashed jobs through the aviation stoop through the pandemic.

Jaap de Winter, chairman of the Schiphol board, mentioned he and board members “respect and perceive Dick’s choice” and will likely be searching for a successor.
