AMSTERDAM (AP) — The CEO of Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport has stop after a summer time that descended into chaos and flight cancellations amid employees shortages within the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I’ve achieved my best, however we’re not there but. I do hope it will get higher quickly,” CEO Dick Benschop mentioned in an announcement launched by the airport Thursday, after he informed the board of his choice on Wednesday evening.
He mentioned he was stepping down “to present Schiphol the house to make a brand new begin. I are not looking for consideration on me to turn into an impediment for Schiphol.”
The busy aviation hub on the outskirts of Amsterdam has been hit by big queues and piles of unclaimed baggage over the summer time trip months as air journey roared again after the pandemic.
The surge in demand for air journey got here after airways and airports had slashed jobs through the aviation droop through the pandemic.
Jaap de Winter, chairman of the Schiphol board, mentioned he and board members “respect and perceive Dick’s choice” and shall be searching for a successor.
